What a breast revision is for, and what it isn’t
Breast revision is any operation that corrects or changes the result of a previous breast surgery — an augmentation, a lift or a reduction, done by Dr. Chama or by another surgeon. Breast implants are not lifetime devices: over the years they may need to be revised or exchanged, from normal wear or because your body changed.
The most common reasons patients look for breast implant revision in Mexico:
- Capsular contracture: the scar capsule that the body forms around every implant tightens, and the breast becomes firm, distorted or painful.
- Implant malposition: implants that sit too high, too low (“bottoming out”), too far to the sides, or too close together in the middle.
- Rippling or visible edges of the implant under thin tissue.
- A rupture or a suspected rupture, evaluated with imaging.
- A change of size, larger or smaller.
- Implant removal, with or without a lift. Without implants the skin may sag, so an implant removal and lift can be done in the same operation when your tissues allow it.
- Nipple and areola concerns: asymmetry, areolas that stretched or widened after surgery, irregular scars around the areola, or inverted nipples.

How the process works, step by step

- Follow-up. In person before you travel home, then by WhatsApp or video from the U.S., with in-person visits when needed.

What is capsular contracture, and how is it treated with surgery?
Every implant is surrounded by a capsule of scar tissue that the body forms. In capsular contracture that capsule tightens, and the breast becomes firm, changes shape or hurts. Surgery may release the capsule or remove it, and the implant is replaced, moved to a new pocket or removed. The approach depends on the severity and on your goals.
Can I have my implants removed without replacing them?
Yes. It is your decision. Depending on how much your skin stretched and on the size of the implants, the breast may look deflated or sag afterward, which is why removal is sometimes combined with a lift. Dr. Chama explains what to expect for your case.
Can you revise a breast surgery done by another surgeon?
Yes. Bring whatever information you have — implant card, operative report, dates — and Dr. Chama evaluates what can be changed.
Can inverted nipples be corrected?
Yes. The correction releases the tissue that pulls the nipple inward. Depending on the technique, it can affect the milk ducts and therefore breastfeeding; if you plan to breastfeed, tell Dr. Chama before surgery.
Can areolas be made smaller or more even?
Yes. An areola revision reduces or reshapes the areola and leaves a scar around it. Perfect symmetry cannot be promised; the aim is a clear improvement.
Will nipple sensation change?
It can. Any breast surgery can change nipple sensation, temporarily or permanently. It is one of the risks discussed before you decide.
Is a breast revision riskier than the first surgery?
It can be more complex because of scar tissue and previous changes. Risks include bleeding, infection, contracture again, asymmetry, changes in sensation, visible scars and the possibility of another operation later. They are discussed for your specific case.
